“I hope you (FLASH!) and dance…”

~SoJo, 2010~

People tend to see women as emotional creatures.  This used to make me so angry when I was younger.  It was as if the word ‘emotion’ was a synonym for drama, histrionics and instability.  I used to suppress my emotions for fear of being labeled as one of  ‘those’ types of women – ones that either cried at the drop of a hat, or were subject to angry outbursts.  Those behaviors appeared to be a sign of weakness to me.

Over time, as I began to truly appreciate my femininity, I learned to embrace the fact that one of my biggest gifts in life has always been my intuition.  Truth is, I’m STILL learning to trust it – even though in hindsight it has ALWAYS been 100% correct.  My gut feelings –  the ones that assured me that I was experiencing love (or not),  warned me of danger, pushed me forward/pulled me back, led me left/right, overwhelmed me with sadness, anxiety, rage, elation…all of those things have allowed me to travel through life and enjoy it in its totality. If I pretended as though they didn’t exist, it would almost be like traveling blindly or without sound.  A life in black and white, instead of vivid colors.

Sometimes, people like to live their lives in a bubble.  They call emotions such as worry, jealously, regret, guilt, etc. “wasted emotions”.  But are they really?  If  worry causes you to build a stronger foundation or develop a Plan B, is that a bad thing?  If jealousy is the catalyst for you to finally appreciate the people who have been (or tried to be) as consistent as sunrise in your life, is that wrong?  If regret or guilt helps you to avoid repeating the same cycles/people, so that you follow a more productive path, isn’t that considered progress?

Our society appears to be on this never-ending quest for Utopia … which is fine.  Hell, I want it too.  Glitter, unicorns and rainbows are the bees knees!  Trust me.  I know!  ;-)  But it seems to me as though we’re doing that at the expense of blotting away every negative feeling and trying to pile over it with a positive one.  Why are we hellbent on doing that instead of finding the blessing and lesson in both?

Ladies, never ignore your intuition, even when it may seem politically incorrect to do so.  When people cock their heads to the side, give you a puzzled look and say, “You just have a ‘feeling’, huh?” just smile. No need to explain. Especially if there doesn’t seem to be any rhyme or reason at the time.  You never know why a feeling comes, but file it away…don’t bury it.  You  may need to draw on that flash of emotion (good or bad) as a future reference point.  Embrace all parts of your emotional tendencies, the overwhelming joy and devastating sadness.  Those things are helping to fine tune your intuition, which is our greatest STRENGTH.  WHAT A FEELING!!!!!

I’m going to use my intuition here, go out on a limb and say that by “sigh”, you mean that you’re tired of women listening to Steve Harvey more than their inner voices.

Or that when you saw the title of my post, you thought I was talking about a place where women carry their blankets and purses with them at all times… :-P

Gotcha! Now I just have to check to see if I can access your site through my work firewall. When you were on Typepad, it was easy. Everything else is blocked there – including my own site!
