I do. I think about it a lot. So much so, that one of my goals within the next few months is to eliminate my social networking by 98%. Why not 100%? #gohardorgohomeFAIL Well, I am both a narcissist and a voyeur. I can readily admit that I feel powerful when I see my words published on my own blog, in comments and status updates. Knowing that someone…anyone can see the thoughts that I choose to share from so many different places makes me feel connected. It’s the same feeling that I get when I follow friends on FB & blogs or strangers on Twitter & Tumblr. I feel as though my existence and everyone else’s in my generation is intertwined online.

Still, I every time I see this commercial I have to crack up:

It’s true. So many of us are so busy checking in to FourSquare and tweeting about the awesome time we’re having at Anyplace, USA (or Twitpicing this experience or that one) that it causes some of us to actually miss out on absorbing the joy we’re experiencing. It’s like the reporter who inadvertently blocks out the emotion of a story because they’re too busy relaying the facts.

Remember the days when we used to take pictures and actually *gasp* wait for the film to be developed? We knew that we were taking pictures, but we weren’t connected to the immediate images. It may have been 2 weeks or a month later that we got the opportunity to relive some of our fun times and even then, it was a different experience viewing the pictures and connecting them to the memory of that time. Now, we click, check for flaws and re-click if necessary, auto-post and the moment is gone until someone comments or retweets.

I guess my Spirit is just tugging me back towards a simpler, more patient time. But I think that I’ve always been that way – when the world tries to rush me forward, it triggers an urge to automatically slow down and enjoy where I am.
